Geeky Teas

Tonight I went to a new open mic down the street at a board game and tea store called geeky teas. It was very portlandy. Great room, the audience was mostly comics but they were cool. And best of all, I had a good set! Fun spot, will def come here often!

Golden Hour Comedy

Last night in went out to a show called Golden Hour, hosted by Simon Gibson and MK Paulsen, two great people. The show is outside at a coffee shop with a wonderful and vibrant graffiti wall backdrop, very cool looking. Lights are strung up high, and it has a real nice Portland show vibe to it.
I didn't even perform I just went to get out because i've def been in a mental rut for the last couple months as things haven't quite gone as planned. I found myself staying in most night and rarely even going out but I think I'm out of it now. I haven't updated my website, podcast, blog, or even made a post on Facebook in months so yeah...things were not great for me mentally.
The show was great btw. Simon and Mk and everyone else killed. This one dude had a joke about Willie Nelson's sweet voice that was so funny I was crying.
Also it was Megan's birthday on Saturday. I got her cool shit, we went out for fancy Italian food and then saw the Bohemian Rhapsody movie. I fucking loved it. That movie is fantastic for real.
Anyways this post is long enough, hopefully I'll get back in the swing of it and update things more often, stay tuned!

Last night I went out to Westside for the mic and I actually got on! Though in went second to last and was in front of 4 people it was still better than not going.

Tonight I went out to a show called set list, a show where comics I.provide material based on what's projected on a screen. It was pretty empty, only maybe 10 comics, and I didn't so great but instill.had a lot of fun. Great atmosphere and very supportive people. I'll be back soon.

Improv

A couple nights ago in was on a great Showcase at the Hollywood Improv! Show was really fun and its been a few months since I've done 10 minutes so that was refreshing. It was a great lineup with preacher Lawson, James adomian, Eric Andre, and more! My set was good and I really felt recharged for comedy.
The last couple months have been slow, hence to no updates to my blog but now I'm determined to make this comedy work. I'll update again sooner then later.

Gateway Show/5 Minutes to Midnight

Last night I got to be a part of 2 fun showcases!
1st up, the gateway show. Gateway Show is one of my faces and this is the first time I've done it in LA. The show was held at a small venue called echoes and had an audience of about 20 people. I had 2 pretty good sets and because I hadn't smoked all week I got pretty fucked up. I forgot a bunch of tags to a story but it all worked out.
2nd show was a midnight showcase at Dynasty Typewriter, a beautiful theater space hosted by Ron Lynch. About 12 comics were on the show, each doing 5 minutes exactly. After 5, the lights go out. I had a great time there as well and saw some Portland buds.
It felt great to do 2 shows and I feel like I'm getting back in the swing of things.

Last night I went to a show called On Deck. Its a baseball themed comedy show where 2 teams of 3 each go 9 rounds and get scored for their performances. Hard to explain but it works. Great show, o wasn't on it but insid see some of my portland friends for the first time since i moved here which was nice.

Wake and Bake

Well hello everyone, it's been a while. I wish I had a lot of great news related to my comedy but honestly I have not been doing as much comedy lately. Been working as a delivery driver and work till 7, get off and am so tired its hard to go back out. Now I have gone to a lot of open mics but here a lot are lottery based and you're not guaranteed to go on. So far I'm 0/7 at the comedy store, 1/6 at west side comedy, and 0/4 at Icehouse. It's pretty sucky and demeaning to be honest and I've def been at my lowest a few time in the last months but I'm still feeling motivated and I'm not about to quit comedy any time soon.
So last night I went to an open Mike called wake and bake and it's right down the road from my apartment so I could walk there . Got there at about 830 and signed up and watched the show that happens before open mic. Open mic starts at about 1030 but you have to sign up early, and the show is from 830 to 10.
Show was pretty damn good and I got to see my good friend preacher! He came up to me wearing all his motorcycle gear and and helmet and bumped into me cause I couldn't recognize him trying to start some shit. I love that dude, in seeing him at this show was pretty cool. He was fantastic of course doing a lot of new shit and it was all dynamite.
Then the open mic started and I went up at about 1115. I did 4 or 5 minutes and mostly bombed, fell really jagged and low energy up there. What a surprise, i had spent the last 3 hours at a pot store getting high and when I went up I did not crush it. No excuses though, I was just rusty and off.
Regardless I am very glad I went out, I saw my friend, and I'll probably start going to that mic regularly on Sundays

HaHa Cafe

Last night I got off work early and decided to walk to the cafe. I haven't done comedy in 2 weeks, just been trying to work as much as possible and that kind of sucks bought whatever.
I was pretty lucky because I went up 4th or 5th and there was about 30 people, it was the best crowd I had seen there. I had a good set and then I got the leave and be home by 7.

Westside Comedy Club

Last night I went to Westside in Santa Monica for the open mic. This is the fourth time I've signed up and the first time I got up.
I went last. 27 out of 27. What are the odds? I did 3-4 minutes in front of 8 people and had a tepid response. Still was fun though, and was told if i come back next week they'll put me up sooner.
Also ran into a friend I made at Bridgetown a few years ago. He runs a few good shows and said he'd get me on.
     Networking.

HaHa Cafe

Last night I walked to HaHa Comedy Cafe, w small club that conveniently close to my apt. Its a dark and not well attended room, but its also fun in its abysmal-ness.
I was lucky cause I went up early and got to do 5 mins in front of an actual crowd. Everything worked well, I closed on a new ice cream joke and it was great.
   That was refreshing.

Flappers in Burbank

This Friday I was at flappers in Burbank and part of a little showcase! It's my first book show since I moved to Los Angeles and although it wasn't even a page showcase it still felt nice. It was in the smaller yoohoo room and I was pretty excited because Whitney Cummings was on the bill to perform!...but she didn't show up.
Regardless I got a nice 5 minute spot third to last so it was prime. There were a bunch of other comics on, doing 3 to 7 minutes apiece. Some were great some were not so great but overall it was still a good show.
My set was pretty good I felt, I opened up strong I fucked around with the audience and they really dug me. Though my Confederate pride material fell flat and I ended on the swastika bit but it didn't hit as hard as I would have liked. Overall still a great set though and hopefully I'll be back soon!

LA open mics

It's me again I'm finally all moved into Los Angeles. It took a couple of trips but now I am settled and have been making my way around the open mic scene.
Monday I went to the comedy store open mic and unfortunately did not make the list but I still stuck around and watched a great show.
Tuesday I went to a comedy club called haha cafe that's about a half mile down the road and they have a pay 5 dollars for 5 minutes policy. So I did 5 minutes in front of about a dozen people, it was pretty bad but I'll be back. The i went to Santa Monica to Westside comedy theater and did not get on that list unfortunately. Hopefully I'll get on that stage soon, I love the area and even when I don't get on I can walk around the pier and be a tourist.
That said for me not sure if I'm going out tonight but I'll update Friday or Saturday and let you know what I've been up to

Move to LA

So after my open mic set and goodbyes at Helium I felt so jazzed I drove to LA at midnight. It was a lot g drive, with the gf, cat and all our shit strapped to the roof of my car. Car made drive fine, gas mileage was bad cause of stuff on roof though but watevs. Cat wasn't that bad at all, a good surprise for me! It was silent most of the 15 hoyr trip.
Got moved in by 6 pm wednesday and was passed out by 8. Thursday we got busy and got groceries, got a bunch of stuff from IKEA and best buy....I splurged on a set of headphones I've wanted for years and had a gift card, also got a new tv. Watched office on 40 inches of beauty that night. Also got a desk, and a couple chairs and necessities at IKEA, was a pain in the ass but afterwards it felt great to be done...and have a sweet set of headphones.

Last Helium Open Mic

Tonight I arrive at the open mic at Helium with my car loaded up for my move to LA tomorrow. This is gonna be the last time I am at Helium for the open mic for a long time and it's a bittersweet moment. I'm moving to la tomorrow morning and am really excited for the future though, so thumbs up!
I went up last and had a pretty decent loose set. All in all a great way to end my open mic run at Helium.
Also a couple days ago I was in Bend and did 2 sold out shows with my good friend Nathan. Both shows were amazing and full of energy

My Farewell Roast

Tonight was my send off show at helium comedy club. It was a farewell roast before I moved to Los Angeles and it was a great show that I will always remember. Everybody performed great, the audience was energized and with it from start to finish. This was a way for me to say farewell to Portland and begin the next chapter of my life in Los Angeles and I am so grateful for all the experience I gained living in Portland. The future feels wide open.
Thank you too everyone in Portland and the entire staff of helium comedy club!

Mississippi Pizza

Tonight I get the headline Mississippi pizza! It's a great show called your welcome hosted by 3 of my friends and it's at a cool pizza bar that always has a pretty good crowd.
I went up last and did about 25 minutes. It was pretty okay, not great not bad. I had some good hits on some jokes and some of them fell flat. I feel like the audience was kind of tired by the time I got on stage but regardless it was a pretty decent set.
I really need to dial in some of my jokes for la.

Slide Inn

Tonight I got to perform at the Slide Inn Showcase. Its one of my fave showcases in town and I'm honored to headline it.
I went up to a full room and had a great time, most of my stuff hit well and I even brought back some real old shit that worked. ie: my adidas track suit bit. All in all a great night.

Next Stage Theater

Tonight I'm in LA apt hunting and after a long day of looking at shitty apts, I went to The Comedy Store and signed up for the open mic but did not get on the list. I stuck around and watched a great episode of the Kill Tony Podcast and afterwards I headed to a place called Next Stage Theater.
I signed up and was last on the list.....I bombed pretty badly but I still had a great night overall. The drive back was pretty serene, no other cars passed me through the canyon and granted it was 2am but still...its LA so you always expect to see other people all around you.

Capitol City Theater

Last night I was in Salem headlining the capital city theater with some good buddies of mine. Unfortunately it was a pretty small crowd, about 10 people in the audience but at least they were laughing. I went up and did over 50 minutes, probably should have cut it at the 30 minute mark but I just kept going. Had a lot of new stuff that I'm going to work on and got some pretty good laughs here and there but it wasn't the best show by any means.

Helium

Happy new year every one, I hope all is well. I started the new year off at the open mic at helium and it was a packed crowd. Unfortunately my set was not that stellar, I had some new material about anime Christmas but it did not go over that well.

Oh well, it's great to start the new year off with a bomb
